Making Web Content Make Sense

About Me

... Content and user advocate

profile photo

I come to web design from the field of technical communication. My years of experience writing and editing print communications led to writing intranet content for a Big 4 accounting firm, where I received on-the-job Human Factors International (HFI) training and earned an HFI usability certification. (See HFI training below, for a course list). I used my training to conduct usability tests, write usability reports, and re-architect intranet sites.

Through the Quinnipiac University master of science program in Interactive Communications (recently renamed Interactive Media), I honed my skills to write for the web — to convey more information with fewer words and to help users immediately find and comprehend the information they seek.

Through user-centered design courses, I built on user experience knowledge and skills acquired on the job. These courses covered a range of assignments typically performed by information architects, user-centered designers, and web content strategists. Since earning my master's, I further honed my design skills in Human-Computer Interaction courses offered by coursera.org.

Through multimedia and other courses, I also acquired other knowledge and skills in areas essential to online communication. Courses include:

  • Media Imaging and Sound Design (audio/video)
  • Information Animation (Flash)
  • Web Programming Techniques (HTML, CSS, and jQuery)
  • Social Media
  • Internet Ethics
  • Project Planning
  • Visual Aesthetics
